What Happens in a Service?

12 Aug 2024

Have you ever wondered what happens during your vehicle’s service?

We all know the importance of getting ours cars regularly serviced, but what actually happens when our cars go into the workshop, and why is it important to get them regularly serviced?

We spoke to Mercedes-Benz South West’s Matt, the Senior Service Team Manager at Mercedes-Benz of Exeter.

What happens when a customer drops their car off?

Customers have four options for arranging their service, which is carried out in our Mercedes-Benz Approved Service Centre:

  1. Drop and Go. This involves the customer dropping the keys into reception and coming back to pick up their vehicle at 4:30pm.
  2. Loan Car. This allows the customer to drop their car off before being shown to their loan car.
  3. Customers will have a fixed pre-arranged waiting appointment, where they will be greeted by the service advisor, shown the facilities in the showroom, and made to feel at home while they wait.
  4. Drivers will collect the customer’s car for its service and will deliver the customer’s vehicle back to them at home after the service is complete.

What’s the first thing you that happens when a service begins?

The car will go into the workshop where the technician will carry out a complimentary Vehicle Health Check.

What checks are included?

Checks will include the outside and underside of the vehicles, as well as brakes, tyres, suspension, wipers, bulbs, and more. Our team will carry out an 'A' service or a 'B' service, depending on the age or mileage of your vehicle. Whichever service option your car requires, our team will use genuine Mercedes-Benz parts when they’re scheduled for a replacement.

Once our expert technicians inspect your vehicle, they’ll provide you with a personalised film outlining your visual health check and the work required. You will then have the option to approve the suggested work.

How long does it take?

The length of a service depends on the age and mileage of a vehicle, but they are carried out either annually or every 15,000 miles, depending on which comes first. After every service, you’ll receive written confirmation detailing the work carried out for your personal records.

Why is it important to get your car regularly serviced?

It’s important to keep mechanical machinery maintained by manufacture standards to check safety-related items on a regular basis.
