MercedesTrophy 2022 Summary

Mercedes-Trophy is back! We have been delighted to welcome our amateur golfers to this Mercedes-Trophy golf competition after two long years since the pandemic began.

Mercedes-Trophy is a golf event for amateur golfers who own a Mercedes-Benz. The tournament competes in three handicap categories: 0-10, 11-18 and 19+. Golfers can register through Mercedes-Benz South West where they are picked out from a ballot to play at each of our four Retailer days in the South West. The winners in each division will earn a place in the Market Area Final. If successful, they will grant themselves a place in the National Qualifiers at the iconic Belfry Hotel and Resort.

Mercedes-Benz of Truro Retailer Day

Our Truro Retailer Day kick-started the tournament, the day was held at the stunning Cape Cornwall Golf Club in Penzance, located close to St. Just. The challenging course is accompanied by beautiful scenery. We would like to congratulate all who joined us at our Truro Retailer day and our winners: Ian Hodge, David Osgood Paul Reed.

Mercedes-Benz of Taunton Retailer Day

The Taunton Retailer day was held at the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club. Just a stone throw away from Butlins. A wonderful 18-hole course based on Minehead seafront. We would like to congratulate all of the participants and the winners: Adrian Deakins, Chris Pitman, Eunice Huxtable.

Mercedes-Benz of Exeter Retailer Day

Exeter Retailer Day was held at the incredible Warren Golf Club, located in Dawlish Warren. The course is surrounded by spectacular wildlife and fantastic sea views. A huge congratulations to all those who attended and to the winners: Peter Keech, Derek Harwood, Peter Taylor.

Mercedes-Benz of Plymouth Retailer Day

The Retailer day was at the exceptional Boringdon Park Golf Club. The course is located just off Plymbridge road in Plymouth. The course is surrounded by beautiful scenery and 400 acres of glorious parkland. We would like to congratulate everyone who attended and our winners: David Wilson, Ben Stanbury, Margaret Bunton.

Market Area Final

The Market Area Final is bigger and better and pulls out all of the stops at the spectacular Trevose Golf and Country Club in Padstow. This is the last event Mercedes-Benz South West holds before handing it over to MBUK. We would like to thank all of those who attended and our wonderful winners who have made it through to the Belfry: Adrian Deakins, Derek Harwood, Margaret Bunton.

Margaret Bunton

“This year was my first experience of the Mercedes Trophy Golf Tournament.  What a privilege to be invited to play in the first round at Boringdon Golf Club.  Having played only once at Boringdon when it was just a fledgling golf course, I saw an immense change.  The Greenkeepers are to be congratulated as the course looked immaculate.  I had an amazing day of golf and hospitality from Mercedes. This result qualified my entry to play in the next round at Trevose; a course no keen golfer would turn down.  Again a fantastic day of golf on an amazing course, followed by very enjoyable refreshments at the 19th hole followed by a delicious meal. Both days I played with golfers I had not met before and this was a lovely aspect of the day. Next step the Belfry.  Excited beyond words to be playing on this famous course.  No expectations golf wise but looking forward to experiencing the Mercedes hospitality for yet another day.  My Mercedes experience has been relayed to my colleagues at Looe Golf Club who I can honestly say are much impressed!”

“When I was invited to play in the Mercedes Trophy I was delighted. A chance to meet new friends along the way and peak at the new Mercedes offerings outside of the showroom. I was greeted by Amber and her team to the Warren Club situated on the river Exe. The Warren is a nature reserve with a golf club on it. You have to be accurate and patient on the fairways to avoid the dunes and the tricky grasses. Greens were a good as the brilliant weather. Luckily I sunk my fair share of putts to progress through to round two. I switched my reliable Mercedes air conditioning on to full to keep me chilled enroute to the fabulous Trevose golf and country club in Cornwall. Round two. Amber was there again making fellow golfers feel welcome and plying us with coffee and bacon butties, heaven. From the terrace at Trevose you get a wonderful view of the course and the ocean in the background, pretty picture if there was ever one. I soon met up with my fellow players and off we went round this superb links, in my case for the first time. We all had our moments, long drives, mid iron recoveries and of course the odd putt dropped to huge relief. Eighteen holes of sunshine and good company, what else do you need eh? To cap off a superb day we assembled for an excellent dinner with our hosts from Mercedes'. Results. I progressed to round Three to play the iconic Belfry Brabazon course, watch this space...”

Adrian Deakins

“The invitation from Rick to play in the local qualifier, and then peg up, on a very windy but sunny day at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club was my very first experience of the tournament. In an era where events such as this are rarely laid on it was brilliant to be part of such a well structured and well thought out competition. I was made to feel most welcome, had knowledge of our start times beforehand, played with like-minded people, thoroughly enjoyed the golf course and had a lovely meal in the company of the other guests, before then learning the winners of the 3 handicap groups who would progress to the next round. A fantastic day. My Mercedes enables me to travel in comfort with the knowledge that I'm safe behind the wheel, whilst the boot readily looks after all my golf equipment.

As for new budding golfers - golf I have found offers so much: excellent camaraderie, stretching your legs, learning new skills, thinking about what you want and how you are going to do it, visiting new places, and enjoying the food and drink of the 19th hole, whilst sharing stories of your experiences. "
