Reviewed: GLC 300e SUV Hybrid

26 Jan 2022

We’re back with another hybrid review, and this time we caught up with Greg Fanning, General Manager at Exeter’s David Lloyd Club, to find out how much he’s enjoying his latest Mercedes-Benz hybrid, the GLC 300e SUV Hybrid. In this review, Greg outlines not only how the hybrid gives him that sense of ‘green’, but also what a beautiful drive the GLC 300e SUV is. How to sum up the GLC 300e SUV hybrid? Speed, power, agility, and balance, all combined with the dependable luxury you’d expect from a Mercedes-Benz. The combined output from the petrol hybrid SUV is 316hp, going from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds. The battery in the GLC will produce a range of up to 31 miles which you can make the most of dependent on your driving style. The intelligent Regenerative Braking System on-board will help too, due to the battery recycling wasted energy and feeding it straight back into itself. Charging the GLC 300e SUV using a home wallbox will charge the battery in just over two-and-a-half hours ready for your next emission-less drive. Have you got a charger installed at home? If not, when do you usually charge your car? "I don’t have a charger at home no. I plug the car in at the David Lloyd club if no members are using the 2 pod point. It’s very convenient, and means I don’t have to worry about having enough ‘fuel’ to get home every evening." What is the fuel consumption like compared to a combustion engine? "Not as good as its diesel brother! On distance trips the diesel (GLC 300de SUV) is more efficient. But I suppose that’s always been the battle between petrol and diesel, more speed vs more efficiency."  What’s your favourite feature on the GLC 300e SUV? "The look and feel. The car has a great driver position which is slightly higher up than I have previously experience. The seats are comfy, and there is plenty of space for all the family and dog!" Do you prefer the SUV body type over other previous body types you have driven? "Yes. Although in my opinion, I think the GLC Coupe looks better albeit the slightly reduced visibility out of the rear window which is only natural from a Coupe." Would you be inclined to get an all-electric car next? "Yes definitely."  Huge thank you to Greg at Exeter’s David Lloyd Club for giving us the low down on the GLC 300e SUV Hybrid. We hope this has helped you tie up any loose ends you had regarding hybrid or electric vehicles. They still look great, feel great, and charging the battery can be far more convenient than you initially think.
