Sadly, over 270 people die from cardiovascular disease in Exeter alone each year. The British Heart Foundation is funding £1million of research in Exeter, aiming to discover vital treatments to change the fight against heart disease.
One of the research projects taking place in the Exeter laboratories, tests the fascinating idea that we can predict, prevent and slow down the development of heart diseases by looking and treating the kidneys. Ill functioning kidneys causes significant problems to your health and affects millions of people in the UK. One in three people will develop some level of kidney disease in their lifetimes. It’s a condition that costs the NHS £1.45bn per year, and it kills more people than prostate cancer or breast cancer.
