Meet the Team: Matt Rickard, New Car Sales Manager
This month’s Meet the Team installment takes us to Mercedes-Benz of Exeter to meet their newly appointed New Car Sales Manager, Matt Rickard. Matt has worked in the motor industry since 2016 and joined the Mercedes-Benz South West team at the end of 2020.
Tell us a bit about yourself Matt: I live in Exeter with my partner Katie. We are expecting our first child imminently. Our due date was 2nd of March so we are patiently waiting for our new arrival! I’m a big sport fan and follow Football, Formula 1 and Golf. I used to play in Plymouth Argyle’s youth team and after finishing there moved to America to complete a degree in business management with a scholarship to play football for Oakland University in Michigan.
Where are you from? I lived in Exeter all through my school years but left home when I was 16 and moved to Plymouth.
How long have you been working at Mercedes-Benz South West? Three months- I joined on December 1st 2020
Favourite Mercedes-Benz model? (old or new) E63s Estate in Magno Grey
Most memorable day at work you’ve ever had? 1st March 2019- Beast from the East arrived and we had to close the dealership due to snow! There were some disappointed customers that day unfortunately.
Have you always been in the motor trade? What did you do before? Yes, I finished university in May 2016 and started in the motor trade in August 2016. I used to work for MINI and have been both a Business Manager and finally Brand Manager.
Favourite part of the job? Working with the team and getting to drive the new models when they arrive. The technology and the move to electric is something that I can really see the benefit of as I only live a small commute away.
What’s your favourite animal? Do you have any pets? Dogs, we have one golden retriever called Minnie, she is two and a half. We also have two British Shorthair cats and a tortoise.
Best holiday you’ve ever been on? Snowboarding in Breckenridge, Colorado or Cyprus for some Sun!
How many attempts did it take you to pass your driving test? Just the one! Which radio station are you listening to when you drive? Talksport if I’m on my own, if I’m not then it will be whatever the other half chooses!
Favourite place to visit in the South West? St Ives, Cornwall. We stay at the same place called the Anchor Loft whenever we go. It’s right in the middle of town and the perfect spot for a weekend.
Favourite Film? Depending on my mood I guess but a couple of choices would be Step Brothers or most of the Marvel franchise movies.
Favourite Band/Artist? I’m honestly not a music person, it’s Talksport or nothing for me on my own.
First concert you ever went to? From memory I think it was someone like Busted at Powderham Castle in the late 90s. I was dragged along by my Mum and Sister I believe.
Tipple of choice? Old Mout Cider or San Miguel – has to be ice cold though!
What would be your Karaoke song? Westlife – Flying without wings. I remember attempting to sing this when I was in primary school.
If the world ends tomorrow, what would you choose as your last meal? There’s a couple of tough choices to make here; Homemade or takeaway? A slow cooked roast if it was homemade or Hanlons Brewery make some really nice takeaway burgers that I would definitely recommend.
What’s at the top of your bucket list? I haven’t been skiing or snowboarding since 2015 and it’s something that I really miss doing and my partner has never been. It’s something I would like her to learn and we can enjoy as a family.
What are you most looking forward to this year? Becoming a Dad, which by the time this goes out, will have happened!
Finally… Jam then cream, or cream then jam? That’s not even a question – CREAM then Jam.
