Meet the Team: Emily Coates - Assistant Marketing Manager

Today we're finding out all about our Assistant Marketing Manager Emily Coates, who is approaching her nine-year anniversary with the company!

Where are you from?

I was born in Kent but spent 22 years living abroad in Papua New Guinea, Laos, Bangladesh and Canada. In 2014 I moved back to the UK to get my MSc in International Management and I had every intention of moving back to Canada, but never did! There’s a running joke among my friends that I’m not actually ‘from’ anywhere. I’ve lived in so many places it’s hard to identify with just one.

How long have you been working at Mercedes-Benz South West?

I started on the front desk nine years ago this November – the rest is history!

What is your favourite Mercedes-Benz model? (Old or new!)

I’ve always liked the C-Coupe, but when I was in my company car I loved driving my CLA.

Most memorable day at work?

They keep changing – but most recently, finding out I was going to be Assistant Marketing Manager. We’ve also had some incredibly memorable days when we launched the new website(s), which have all been huge projects for us involving a lot of collaboration, so it was nice to see all that hard work finally come to life.

Favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job has always been our involvement in all of the exciting projects we get the opportunity to be part of, and as a result I get to work with the people in our team and watch them grow in confidence and ability.

What’s your favourite animal?

For anyone who knows me, horses (obviously) – very closely followed by dogs!

Where is your favourite place to visit in the South West?

I love the beaches and would happily spend hours driving to the Jurassic Coast or Cornwall (or anywhere!) just to watch the sun set.

What’s your go-to song or radio station to listen to in the car?

My car is always linked to my Spotify, the playlist of which changes wildly depending on my mood and who is in the car with me.

How many attempts did it take you to pass your driving test?

Just the once! Although I did do it twice – once in Canada and once in the UK :) 

What’s your favourite film?

It used to be Spirit, but now I’m in my 30s I feel it should definitely be something more adult so naturally I’ll say any of the Harry Potters, LOTR, Marvel movies …

What’s at the top of your bucket list?

More world exploring!

What would be your karaoke song?

I think I could safely sing any of the Spice Girls or Nickelback songs without stumbling over words, but Karaoke is not my strong suit.

Tipple of choice?

Archers and lemonade.

First concert you ever went to?

I can’t remember my first concert but over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen some of the big ones like Queen, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Sting, and The Eagles to name a few.

What are you most looking forward to?

To be brutally honest, currently some consistently nice weather that isn’t freezing in the morning! But failing that, more trips to various parts of the world, sun sets, and working with our team.
