Introducing the eSprinter
Following Mercedes-Benz's success with electric vans, we're pleased to introduce the popular Sprinter as an EV.
The Mercedes-Benz eVito was not only the brand’s first electric commercial vehicle, it was also the UK’s first full-production electric van to enter the UK market.
Since Mercedes-Benz entered the first mid-size electric van into the market, they have grown their portfolio of electric vans to include the eCitan Panel Van, eVito Panel Van, eVito Tourer, and eSprinter Panel Van.
The eSprinter has been hailed ‘the most versatile and efficient all-electric Mercedes-Benz van to date'.
Versatility and flexibility
The added value for customers is included in its availability of two body shapes and lengths, three battery sizes, and a high payload. In a first for Mercedes-Benz vans, the eSprinter comes with the MBUX multimedia infotainment system. It also includes enhanced safety and assistance systems as well as upgraded standard equipment. In addition, the eSprinter will be available with an optional trailer coupling.
Efficiency, range, and load volume are three components that made the eSprinter the perfect all-rounder. Its efficiency was demonstrated during a test drive in which a pre-production model with a battery size of 113 kWh completed a route from Stuttgart to Munich and back – a distance of 295 miles – on a single battery charge.
Electric powertrain
The electrically-driven rear axle offers customers advantages in terms of vehicle lengths, maximum gross weight (4.24 tonnes), towing capacities (2 tonnes), and load volume (14m³). The eSprinter is available in two body shapes and lengths, with an efficient electric motor with output levels of 100 and 150 kilowatts each.
The battery cells are made of lithium iron phosphate and are free of cobalt and nickel. The energy recovery in overrun and braking mode (recuperation) ensures optimised and efficient driving. The intensity of the recuperation can be adjusted individually via shift paddles behind the steering wheel. A particularly efficient and comfortable driving style is made possible by the new DAUTO automatic recuperation system in the eSprinter.
Charging
Like all electric vans from Mercedes-Benz, the eSprinter is capable of both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) charging. The on-board charger can be charged with direct current at up to 115 kilowatts (optional) at a fast-charging station.
The battery with a capacity of 56 kWh can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around 28 minutes at a maximum of 115 kW. The battery with a usable capacity of 113 kWh needs around 42 minutes at a maximum of 115 kW. The Mercedes me Charge4 digital service is also available for the eSprinter. This gives customers access to one of the largest public charging networks in Europe with around 600,000 charging points - including the European fast-charging network IONITY. At all stations, Mercedes me Charge enables charging with electricity from renewable energy sources.
MBUX
The eSprinter incorporates the latest generation of MBUX as standard equipment with a 10.25 inch display, offering a digital and interaction experience. In conjuction with a Mercedes me account, the MBUX infotainment system provides a wide range of digital extras. This makes the eSprinter increasingly intelligent, and the everyday life of customers even easier and more efficient. This is a result of functions such as maintenance, accident, and breakdown management, as well as remote services such as locking and unlocking the doors and opening and closing the windows via the Mercedes me app.
Safety and assistance systems
In the eSprinter, the standard Active Brake Assist now includes the intersection function and can therefore also warn of vertically crossing or oncoming vehicles and dangerous overtaking manoeuvres, as well as intervene in an emergency and assist with turning if a collision with another vehicle is imminent.
Coming as standard on the eSprinter are: Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness warning, Intelligent Speed Assist with cruise control including free navigation data for up to seven years after the vehicle's production date, the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system and the reversing camera for panel vans and tourers. Optionally, for the first time, the Moving-off Information Assist is available to avoid collisions with other road users in front of the vehicle when moving off. The Sideguard Assist, which is standard for vehicles with N2 approval but is otherwise optional, helps to better perceive pedestrians and cyclists in a defined area on the passenger side.
For convenient and fast parking, the parking package is available with a 360-degree camera and new 3D display for visibility of obstacles. Finally, the optional digital rear-view mirror offers a comfortable view to the rear even when there is no rear window or the vehicle is long.
