Energy Saving Week
What is Energy Saving Week? It’s a week dedicated to raising awareness of every-day ways to save energy and cut down on fuel costs for all age groups. For kids, Energy Saving Week is a great way to learn about what energy is in a fun way. And for adults, it provides fresh ideas on how to reduce your carbon footprint while saving money at the same time. We love it here at Mercedes-Benz South West because the outcome is so positive across the board. Simply put, Energy Saving Week:
- Highlights how you can use energy in a more sustainable way
- Reduces your energy costs and in turn saves you money
- Reduces your carbon footprint
- Cleaner and greener planet
This week-long national campaign was created by the partnership of Citizens Advice, the Energy Saving Trust and the Department of Business, and Energy and Industrial Strategy, all coming together to encourage a cleaner and greener planet via the Energy Saving Week campaign. Here’s some quick tips and ideas to help you get started:
Lessen water usage
We’re all guilty of standing under the shower for too long or leaving the tap running while brushing our teeth. Getting out of these wasteful habits can help decrease your water bill quite significantly. By leaving the water running, you’re just throwing money and energy down the drain.
Spend less time in the shower
The temptation to stand under that hot water during the cold winter months is very real. Cut down your time spent in the shower and you'll no doubt see a reduced cost on your next water bill. According the Energy Saving Trust, you should be spending no longer than four minutes in the shower.
Wash clothes on low temperature
An easy habit to change. Even washing a full load of clothes at a cooler temperature rather than a warmer temperature saves a lot of water and electricity.
Avoid tumble dryer
Dry clothes outside or on racks instead if possible. Doing this can save you roughly £40 per year and also eliminates the risk of you accidently shrinking more t-shirts!
Wall insulation
This one tends to be for the older homes that were constructed without energy efficiency in mind. Both loft and wall insulation can help reduce your energy bills and help lower energy consumption.
Use solar panels / powered devices
You’ll be surprised how many household items can now function using solar power rather than the electricity from the wall. Making these changes can definitely help reduce your electricity bill. One great example is garden lights; let the sun power them rather than the electricity from your sockets!
Smart meters
Using smart meters helps you keep an eye on your energy usage on a day-to-day basis. It’s also a great way to identify what appliances use a lot of energy and at which times of the day you use more energy.
Fit double glazing windows
Old single glazed windows can be the reason your home takes a while to warm up and cools down so quickly. A dodgy fit can make it really easy for the warm air to just disappear in and around the window. Properly fitted double glazed windows will stop this from happening and will keep the warm air in for longer, meaning you don’t have to use as much energy.
Switch to an electric car
This is definitely something we can help you with and we know for a fact that driving an all-electric vehicle leaves you feeling great about travelling clean. As the Mercedes-Benz EQ range continues to grow, more and more all-electric solutions are revealed to help you make your electric switch. This year we're very excited to welcome the EQE, EQS and the EQB to our dealerships in the South West. Check out our Electric and Hybrid range today. We hope our top tips and ideas on how you can save more energy everyday has been helpful. Sure, some are smaller and quicker than others, but they all have one thing in common; they all save energy and money in the long run.
