It is no secret that the South West is one of the UK’s most beautiful regions, with its endless rolling countryside and stunning coastline rivalling any other landscape you could hope to find. These blissfully quiet and idyllic routes will allow you and your partner to truly relax and enjoy some incredible views in both comfort and style.

So, if you’re looking for something different to spend Valentine’s Day, be sure to truly explore your local area by taking one of these romantic drives.

Romantic drives around Cornwall and Devon

Zennor to Sennen, Cornwall

Starting from the picturesque village of Zennor, take the B3306 all the way to Sennen. From there, it will be easy to find the lovely Sennen Cove, which is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole country. The coastal views which can be enjoyed on this 14-mile drive are quintessentially Cornish; be sure to look out for the 19th century Longships Lighthouse (which is still in operation) off the coast of Land’s End.

21 Mile Drive, Exmoor, Devon

A famous figure-of-eight route which introduces you to both the countryside and coastal delights of Exmoor in North Devon, the ’21 Mile Drive’ should be included on any trip to the area. From the cliffs of Lynton and Lynmouth to the deep woodland of Heddon Valley, this route offers some diverse and incredibly romantic scenery. Exeter to Labrador Bay Lookout.

Labrador Bay is a gorgeous lookout spot, situated just south of Teignmouth. And it’s the perfect destination for a romantic drive, whether you’re driving in the day or evening. On a clear day, you’ll see Lyme Bay and there’s even been reports of dolphin spotting.

If you’re starting from Exeter, make your way towards Teignmouth by using the A379 road, passing through the villages and towns of Kenton, Starcross, and Dawlish. Once you reach Teignmouth, cross the bridge over to Shaldon and follow the main road as if you’re driving towards Torbay. The roads get quite windy here, so once they’ve straightened out, you can expect the car park turning on your left.

St Michael’s Mount to Lands End

Embark on a romantic journey from St Michael's Mount to Land's End, a drive that promises breathtaking coastal views and enchanting stops. Begin your adventure at the iconic St Michael's Mount, where the castle and gardens set a magical tone. As you drive along the rugged coastline, take in the dramatic cliffs and azure waters. Stop at charming villages like Mousehole, perfect for a cosy lunch. Continue to Porthcurno Beach, where golden sands and turquoise waves create a picturesque setting. Finally, reach Land's End, where the stunning vistas and the feeling of being at the edge of the world make for an unforgettable romantic experience.

Newquay to Padstow, Cornwall

Padstow Cornwall is a beautiful county but it can get busy, particularly in the height of summer. Taking the coastal road between the popular resorts of Newquay and Padstow, however, will allow you and your partner to enjoy some peaceful time together as you gaze out over the route’s many golden beaches to the Atlantic beyond. Once you have safely arrived at your destination, you can enjoy some of the many attractions in either Padstow or Newquay that are sure to keep you entertained until it’s time to head back.
