3 Ways that Electric Car Charging is Easier than you Think

10 Mar 2020

From a vision to the future to now a viable vehicle option – there’s no doubt that electric cars are growing in popularity. The biggest concerns continue to be around powering your vehicle and the differences in electric car charging compared to traditional fuel-powered engines. It can seem like a big leap, but mostly switching to electric will be friendly for your wallet and your time! We’ve put together a list of the 3 top fears around electric car charging to show how easy it is to make the change.

I can’t afford a home charging unit

Good news, you can get a free BP Chargemaster Homecharging Unit* (worth £399) with an OLEV grant. A home charging unit is a great way of future proofing your home, and ensuring that you can benefit from the cheapest way to charge your electric car. A BP Chargemaster Home charging Unit will be installed by an expert HomeCharge Installer which will take around 4-6 hours. The Unit is also Smart Enabled, meaning that you can control your charging from the convenience of your smart phone. Visit the BP Chargemaster FAQs for more information.

Charging out and about is going to be time consuming!

Yes, an electric car can mean that you have to consider ‘refueling’ more frequently, but the best way to combat this is with top-up charging.

Top-Up Charging is basically getting into the habit of charging your car whenever you’re parked. The smart EQ app can help with this by identifying your nearest available charge point. With a combustion engine vehicle your stationary car was just that, now with the smart EQ your parking space could actually save you having to spend your time at the fuel station during rush hour! Plus, until the end of March 2020, we’re offering new smart EQ customers 2 Years free BP Chargemaster Polar Plus Membership*. This membership entitles you to full two years of limitless access to over 7,000 public charge points in the UK. Most of these offer either free charging or payment just for the electricity that you use (prices start at around 12p per kWh).

Electric cars are expensive

Like all cars, the cost comes on a spectrum and the new facelift smart EQ is an extremely affordable option. The latest facelift models can be yours from as little as £256 per month on a PCP deal, and we are now also seeing used demonstrator EQ stock becoming available for as little as £14,995**. This, along with the vastly reduced fuel costs, makes a smart EQ an extremely wallet-friendly option. Plus, the government is still offering savings of up to £3,500 toward the cost of a new electric vehicle†. This scheme is designed to encourage early-adopters, and will not be around forever, and so is a great way to stake your claim on electric drive early. So, with a few tweaks to your habits electric driving can save you time and money.
